The 39 Steps (Re-climbed!)

The-39-Steps-Poster-v2 web v2Conceived, Written, Designed & Directed by Simon Pell

January & February 2015

Adapted for the stage by Simon Pell, from the novel by John Buchan, The 39 Steps (Re-climbed!) is a ripping whistle-stop spy adventure yarn that steams full speed from London to Scotland and back again to save England from ruthless foreign powers in the immediate build-up to The Great War.

This ensemble production is a highly entertaining, gripping, and hilarious tongue in cheek comic book style journey for the whole family that has a heart/clock stopping finale. Buchan’s popular novel was published in 1915. What better time could there be to create a brand new and unique stage version of this classic adventure story during the current centenary commemorations of World War One?

Journey's End -- Autumn 2014

Journeys-End-Image webDirected by Steven Bainbridge

Autumn 2014

Thanks to an award from the BBC Performing Arts Fund, we had the opportunity to present an additional piece of work this year.

To nourish new directing talent, we were awarded a grant to produce a published work with the help of an established director.

Supported by Jill Cole, Steven Bainbridge – recently seen playing Tybalt in Romeo & Juliet and Sherlock Holmes in Hound of the Baskervilles – turned his hand to directing R C Sherriff’s moving account of life in the trenches during the First World War.

Journey’s End was performed at The Witham Hall on Friday, October 31st and Saturday, November 1st.

The Hound of the Baskervilles -- Winter 2013

HoundPoster v3Directed by Chris Best & Sarah Fells

Winter 2013

In January/February 2014, The Castle Players presented Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles, adapted by Jill Cole. The show toured local venues across Teesdale and beyond.

This terrifying tale, set on a remote and desolate moor, saw Sherlock Holmes and his faithful companion Doctor Watson attempt to solve the case of the mysterious hound that has cursed the Baskerville family for generations.

As the new Sir Henry Baskerville took ownership of the family home, Holmes and Watson encountered an array of local characters who were not all they appeared to be...

This action-packed and bloodcurdling horror story was not for the faint-hearted!

A Christmas Carol -- Winter 2009

headshotDirected by Simon Pell

Winter 2009

In 2009 The Castle Players performed Dickens' classic seasonal story, A Christmas Carol. This was a rehearsed reading with action, where the Players read from scripts.

The story sees the mean-old Scrooge have a revelation and get into the Christmas spirit after he is shown scenes from his past, present and future by a series of ghosts. Poor Mr and Mrs Cratchitt also make  Populäre Promotionen und Bonuskationen bei einem seriösen Web Glücksspieleinrichtung umfassen nicht nur den Casino Bonus ohne Einlage sondern auch kostenlose Spins, Freispiele, Reload Bonusse und tolle exklusive VIP-Club Angebote. an appearance and end up having the best Christmas ever thanks to Scrooge's epiphany!
