Flare Path - Nov 2018
Event DetailsFrom: 9th November, 2018
To: 10th November, 2018
At: The Witham
Our next production is the play Flare Path by Terence Rattigan and directed by Laura Shaw. This is part of our New Director initiative and we are delighted that Laura has taken the leap from on stage to off.
Flare Path was written in 1941 and was first staged in 1942. Set in a horel near an RAF Bomber Command airbase during the Second World War, the story involves a love triangle between a pilot, his actress wife and a famous film star. The play is based in part on Rattigan's own wartime experiences.
Performance Dates are Friday 9th November and Saturday 10th November 2018 at The Witham, Barnard Castle.
First Meeting is Sunday 12th August 2018, 5-7pm at Startforth Community Centre (formerly Startforth Primary School), in the main hall. Everyone is welcome to come along, hear Laura's ideas for the play, check out the characters and cast needed and to find out about auditions.
If you have any questions about the production or want to be involved, please email Laura Shaw.
About our New Director
Laura has danced since she was three years old gaining, among others, Grad 8 RAD Ballet, Advanced 1 ISTD Modern, Advanced 2 ISTD Tap & IDTA Surrey Senior Tap Champion (2003). Laura has worked as a dance teacher and choreographer for many years. She joined a youth theatre group in her teens, only so she could make friends with someone (it worked, still friends to this day!) performing in The Tempest, Macbeth, Antigone & Red Noses. Bitten with the acting bug, Laura took GCSE and A-Level Drama performing in Beauty & The Beast, 4.48 Psychosis and Agamemnon. With operatic societies Laura has performed in various concerts, Oliver!, Half A Sixpence, Honk & Anything Goes. On moving to Barnard Castle two years ago, Laura was thrilled to get involved with The Castle Players and joined the casts of Henry V, Cagebirds, Twelfth Night & A Christmas Carol.
Laura is now delighted to be directing her first play through The Castle Players' New Director Initiative. She has chosen Flare Path for The Castle Players as it is a touching and understated piece that will suit the group. It will be particularly poignant performing on rememberance weekend in the centenary year of the RAF. Laura is being supported by mentor Jill Cole and the extended family of Castle Players to get the show on the road! The Flare Path team are looking forward to the first meeting/auditions and inviting an audience to enjoy the production in November.
